Young Explorers Program ... MEET SOME OF OUR YEP's ... Daniel Vivier

YEP Daniel Vivier

Borneo Expedition

1. The most important life lesson I learnt from Mike was …

That my limits were too small, that if I didn’t think big and aim far that I would never get anywhere. I am the one that creates my own limits and I am the only one that can break them.

2. What will change in your life after this experience?

I have gained direction in my life. I have focused on a goal and I feel I now have real purpose. My actions and their effectiveness are now going to be different.

3. The best part of this adventure was …

The moment I was stuck in a crack between masses of age-old limestone, hundreds of metres beneath a mountain in Mulu, Malaysia. This was the greatest moment because as I was forcing my body into strange positions in a claustrophobic environment, I realised just how amazingly rare an experience I was having. I had a moment of pure pleasure, happiness and bliss.

4. The worst was …

The worst is having to say goodbye to friends that will now be spread all over the world, but with whom I have formed a special bond. It will be hard to part from them.

5. What will you miss most when you leave?

I am going to miss the feeling of family and always having someone to joke and talk with.

6. What did you learn from …

  • Kirsten – that passion is a crucial tool in the search for happiness and success in life.
  • Michelle – the proper balance and skill needed for volleyball.
  • Eugenie – really helped me with my French and also taught me a few lessons when she beat me in a long-distance swim.
  • Daniel – about university and how I have to embrace the uncertain, for then I will succeed in the fullest.
  • Dongkyun – reminded me that taking on difficulties in life only strengthens your mind and spirit.
  • Rodrigo – about harmony, yoga and how you can change the path of your life if you really want to.
  • Simon – that I should embrace my passion with all my will and power.
  • Garret – that age and size are only numbers.

7. As a Pangaea ambassador, I would like to …

Live my life as an example to others and change all that I can in myself and the way I live before I ask others to do the same. Also, not to let anyone tell me what I can or cannot do.

8. What is your life philosophy?

To take the best values in other people and make it part of who I am.

9. The most useful thing I brought with me on expedition was …

The will to learn.

10. This is what made me laugh the most …

The Moose cut.

11. This is what got me through the expedition:

Friends

12. The five words that describe me are …

Sense of humour, caring, pensive, passionate, understanding.
