European Shark Week 2010

We would like to motivate the YEP community to join, collaborate and organise specific awareness actions and projects during the week of the 9th to the 17th of October which will coincide with our new partner Shark Alliance's European Shark Week.
The Shark Alliance event is officially limited to Europe for the moment but we would like to invite YEPs from around the world to organise a project in their respective countries worldwide
How can you get involved?
You can hold a stand in the streets to raise awareness about shark finning, give a presentation about sharks in your school, build a shark model and cut its fins to attract by-passers, contact a nearby aquarium to either offer your assistance in their potential action or present them with a project, write an article and/or contact your local newspaper to raise awareness, organise drawing or coloring competitions for children around the shark theme, build a shark model using recycled material and sharing your art-making talents in the streets, etc...
Remember that the size of your project does not matter. What is important is to raise awareness around you, change people's minds one at a time if necessary, and make them understand that sharks are crucial to the delicate balance of the marine ecosystems and not the man-eating serial killers as all too often depicted in the media. As a community we can create a movement and raise awareness on a global scale!

If you are interested, please complete the Pangaea Theme Project application form (download here) and send it back to us so that we are aware of your project. Communicate your project on the YEP community to motivate and gather other YEPs in your community to join and help!
A competition will complete the Pangaea Shark Week Theme Project. Send us a photograph(s) of your event, accompanied with a 100-400 word text describing your project after completion (specify action detail, awareness raised, number and names of participants, etc).
On completion of the week we will select the three most successful and original projects and they will win great prizes.
