Kape to Kenya 2012

In April 2012, a 4-month 14'000 kilometer expedition will start from Cape Town, South Africa to Africa's second highest peak at the top of Mt. Kenya, Kenya

Our Mission

Setting-off on the 14th of April, 2012, a 4 month expedition from Cape Town, South Africa to Africa's second highest peak at the top of Mt. Kenya, will begin. Spanning nearly 14,000 kilometers and across 6 nations (and back), and doing it all by PUBLIC transport and other sustainable means.

Along the way, we will stop off at local schools to share our knowledge of sustainable living and empower the youth of Africa to shape the future of our global environment. We will work together to develop new ways of thinking about sustainability in Africa and spread awareness of key environmental issues. The program will cover 2-3 days at each school. Being, as interactive with the students as possible.

Finally, the team will end up at the base of Mt. Kenya, preparing for the summit at 5199m above sea level! The climb is sponsored by Capestorm and will raise awareness and funds for Epilepsy South Africa.

By the end of the expedition, we hope to inspire, share and empower the youth of Africa to take the health of our planet into their own hands. It is up to us, the next generation, to be the makers of our planet's future. We have the technologies and we have the need. Now, we just need to work together to re-shape our environment, take care of our oceans, mountains, wild spaces, wildlife and each other.

Our Vision

  • To share the importance of environmental awareness.
  • To encourage African Youth to value and conserve the natural heritage of their local environment and to relise their own vision about the future of their continent.
  • To discover the beauty and diversity of Africa through sustainable travel and going on wonderful adventures.

Cape Town, South Africa - My love for mountains, my love for Africa, and my love for people makes me very proud to be a part of the Kape to Kenya Expedition. I find myself most at home in wild rugged places, and strive to ensure that future generations are afforded the same opportunity to explore a still-magnificent planet. There is enough left for everyone, but only if we act now.Although I had very adventurous upbringing I only discovered mountains properly in 2001 when, after one Drakensberg hike and some beginner rock climbing I decided to give Kilimanjaro a bash. No-one was available to join me so I set off on my own and came back after a successful summit hooked on mountaineering, but realised that these experiences are best shared. I have since been blessed with opportunities to explore some of South Africa’s most amazing mountains and share ropes with some of the country’s finest climbers.
